JIM Corbett:

Jim Corbett National Park is India’s oldest and most popular National Park in India. The Park acts as a protection zone for Bengal Tigers of India. It is one of the wellknown wildlife sanctuaries in India and among the best places to visit near Delhi.Corbett National Park was established in 1936 as Hailey National Park. After India’s independence the park was named as Ramganga National Park but later in 1956, it was renamed after Jim Corbett – the famous hunter turned conservationist and author, who played a major role in the establishment of the national park. The area came under Project Tiger in 1973. Spread over an area of about 520 sq. km, out of which 330 sq. km forms the core area. Owing to its location in the Himalayan low lands, many streams flow through the park, supporting the diverse vegetation. The altitude of this park ranges from 360 m to 1,040 m. Corbett National Park is one of the best managed and protected areas in the country and attracts thousands of Indian and Foreign visitors each year. It is home to around 50 species of trees, 580 bird species and 25 reptile species. The park is also home to wide variety of wildlife including Tigers, Elephants, Chital, Sambar Deer, Nilgai, Gharial, King Cobra, Muntjac, Wild boar, Hedgehog, common Musk Shrew, Flying fox and Indian Pangolin.In order to promote tourism in the region, Corbett National Park has been divided into 5 different zones, Bijrani, Dhikala, Jhirna, Durgadevi, and Dhela. Dhikala Ecotourism zone opens after monsoon on 15th November for day visit, while Durgadevi and Bijrani Zones open from 15th October onwards. Bijrani, Dhikala and Durgadevi zones are closed from June 15th onwards. Jhirna and Dhela remain open throughout the year for day visits.Bijrani Zone is very popular tourist’s hub because of its abundant natural beauty and open grasslands. The entry gate of the zone is located at only 4 km from Ramnagar city. The probability of spotting a tiger in Bijrani Zone is high as compared to other zones of Jim Corbett National Park. It is easy to avail forest rest house accommodation at this zone. Jeep Safari and Elephant safari are available here for visitors.Jhirna Zone is another important tourist zone in the park that is open for tourist throughout the year. Jhirna Gate is located at a distance of 15 km from Ramnagar city. Dhela Safari Zone is a new eco-tourism zone introduced in November 2014. This is the only area open to tourists in the Tiger Reserve’s buffer zone while the remaining are located in core zone of the park. This zone located at a distance of 15 km from Ramnagar City.Dhikala Zone, the largest and most varied zone in Corbett, is famous for its abundant natural beauty as well as offering the best sight for exotic fauna. The entry gate is 20 km away from Ramnagar. Night stay inside the Dhikala Tourism Zone is highly recommended for wildlife enthusiasts. Durgadevi Zone is located on the north-eastern boundary of the Jim Corbett National Park and is the heaven for those who are fond of bird watching. Entry gate is located at an approximate distance of 30 km from Ramnagar.

Ranikhet:

Ranikhet is a beautiful hill station that attracts umpteen tourists every year. Upat golf-course:

At a distance of 6 km from Ranikhet Bus Stand, Upat Golf Course is one of the highest golf courses of Asia, located at Upat village near Ranikhet.This Golf Course is a 9-hole course making it one of the prime attractions of Ranikhet and is maintained by Kumaon Regiment. The green meadow of the golf course at such high altitude is awe-inspiring. This place is famous for providing panoramic views of surrounding snowcapped Himalayan peak. The area is surrounded by lush green forests densely populated with pine and oak trees.

Mankameshwar Temple, Ranikhet :

The Mankameshwar Temple was built in 1978 by the Kumaon Regimental Centre of the Indian army. This temple is dedicated to three main deities namely Goddess Kalika, Lord Shiva and the pair of Radha-Krishna. Mankameshwar Temple is surrounded by eternal beauty and hence it is one of the most picturesque spots in Ranikhet.Mankameshwar temple is a popular temple for locals and remains busy with devotees throughout the year. People, especially the family members of military units in the Kumaon regiment frequently visit to worship in this shrine. The temple is particularly popular during the months of Sawan; unmarried girls keep fasts during this time and pray for a happy married life. The tourists can also visit the Gurudwara and a woolen garment factory, which is located near the temple.

Jhula Devi Temple / Jhoola Devi Temple, Ranikhet 

At a distance of 5 km from Ranikhet Bus Stand, the Jhula Devi Temple or Jhoola Devi Temple is an ancient temple built in the 8th century, situated near Chaubatia Gardens in Almora district of Uttarakhand. The present temple was constructed in 1935.The presiding deity of the temple is Goddess Durga and it is said that the temple was built to seek Goddess Durga’s protection from the wild animals. According to legend, the dense jungle near the temple was once full of wild animals and leopards & tigers used to attack local villagers. The villagers prayed to Goddess Durga for protection, and one day Goddess Durga came in a shepherd’s dream and advised him to excavate her idol.The temple was built on the same spot from where the idol was obtained. Since then pilgrims come to make a wish to Goddess Jhula Devi and when their wish is fulfilled they come again to thank Jhula Devi Maa by offering a bell to the temple. The temple houses a cluster of holy bells tied to its walls that are known for granting wishes.

Chaubatia Gardens / Chaubatia Orchard, Ranikhet

At a distance of 8 km from Ranikhet Bus Stand, Chaubatia Gardens is famous for its fruit gardens run by the Government Fruit Research Centre and is one of the most attractive locations of Ranikhet.The name Chaubatia literally means the junction of 4 paths, inter-linking the cities of Ranikhet, Bhargaon, Pilkholi and Dehrti. During 1868, Lord Mayo, who was the British Viceroy then, liked this place and wanted the British cantonment to be set up here.The Chaubatia Gardens are perched at an altitude of 1800 m and sprawls over 600 acres of land. It boasts of more than 200 exotic varieties of fruits and flowers. This place is renowned for the orchards of delicious apples, peaches, plums and apricots. A research laboratory is also situated within its premises.Chaubatia with its serene environment and natural beauty is an excellent place for a picnic with the family. Along with this, the surroundings of this place provides panoramic views of the snow clad mountain peaks of Himalayas, as well as Nanda Devi Temple, Trishul, Nandaghunti, and Nilkanth. The GD Birla Memorial School is also located in proximity to this place.

Bhalu Dam:

This is a reservoir in the periphery of Ranikhet. It was built for the use of the soldiers in 1903 by the viceroy. Spectacular views are expected over here with an area full of green surroundings. Many species of birds can be observed over here although animals are rare sighting but the possibility of sighting some species or the other is always there. Some of the most exciting views can be observed especially on a cloudy day with the whole landscape being dramatic but because of the clouds, one might miss the view of the upper Himalayan peaks, hence it is recommended to visit this location at two different times just to enjoy this area at its best.

Sunset Point, Ranikhet 

Ranikhet is home to numerous Sunset Points that offer magnanimous views of the snow covered Himalayas. The best ones among them are Machkhali (located near woodvilla point between Transit Camp and Ganiadeoli) and the one on the road from Jhoola Devi Temple to Bhargaon. The place is best visited between February and November to witness these breathtaking mountains and sunsets in all their glory.

Eco Cave Garden, Nainital :

co Cave Garden is actually a natural park situated in Nainital. Located along the Kaldungi Road in Mallital, it is one of the beautiful parks in Nainital and among the must include places of Himalaya Darshan Tour of Nainital.Maintained by the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam, Eco Cave Garden is a newly developed tourist spot in Nainital. This natural park is a collection of interconnected rocky caves and hanging gardens which offers the glimpse of Himalayan wildlife through different caves. It has a total of six caves namely Squirrel Cave, Bat Cave, Panther Cave, Ape Cave, Tiger Cave and Flying Fox Cave. The caves here are of different dimensions narrowing down further into the tunnels which give it a natural look.It is the epitome of the wild jungle and hills of Nainital. Mainly suited for children, this place will be enjoyed by the whole family. Kids like these informative caves as all the caves are adventurous and filled with fun. These caves are lighted with petroleum lamps. A musical fountain is also present in Eco Cave Gardens but it remains operational only in peak season time.

Nainital Lake / Naini Lake, Nainital:

Nainital Lake is commonly represented to promote Nainital Tourism. The lake was built in 1839 by P. Barron. Situated at an altitude of 2,000 m, this is one of the four lakes of Kumaon hills, the other three lakes are Sattal Lake, Bhimtal Lake, and Naukuchiyatal Lake. Nainital Lake is lunar-shaped and has an outlet at the southeastern end. The lake covers a perimeter of 2 miles with a depth that varies from 6 m to 28 m. The northern part of the lake is called Mallital while the southern part is known as Tallital. Balia Nala is the main feeder stream of the lake. Other than this, 26 major drains, including the three perennial ones, feed it. It is surrounded by panoramic hills on three sides.According to a legend, three sages Atri, Pulastiya, and Pulha had come here for pilgrimage; they felt thirsty and could not find any water. They dug a deep hole where the present lake stands and filled with water brought from Mansarovar Lake in Tibet. This lake is also mentioned in Skand Purana as Trishul Sarover.

Naina Devi Temple, Nainital

Naina Devi Temple is a Hindu temple situated on the northern end of the Nainital Lake near the Nainital Boat House Club. It is one of the top places of pilgrimage in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, and among the must-visit places during Nainital Tour.The presiding deity of the temple is Goddess Naina Devi represented by two eyes. According to the legend, Naina Devi Temple is the place where eyes from burned body of Goddess Sati fall when her corpse was being carried by Lord Shiva. The word Naina is synonymous with Sati’s eyes. The temple is one the main Nainital places to visit.It is said that the current temple at Nainital actually replaces the original 15th-century temple. In 1842, a devotee Moti Ram Shah installed an idol of Naina Devi. A major landslide has destroyed the temple completely in 1880. Naina Devi temple was replaced by the present structure in 1883.Inside the temple, devotees have a darshan of three deities. On the extreme left is Mata Kali Devi, the center representing two eyes of Naina Devi, and to the right side is the idol of Lord Ganesh. After crossing the main gate, there is a big Peepal tree on the left side. On the right side of the temple, there is an idol of Lord Hanuman. The main shrine of Naina Devi is bordered by two lion statues.

Bhimtal Lake, Nainital

The town of Bhimtal is older than the Nainital city and it was once part of the ancient silk route. The town and the lake are named after Bhima, one of the Pandavas of the epic Mahabharata who is said to have visited the place during the exile period. This is another popular attraction not to miss in a Nainital tour packages.Bhimtal is the largest lake in the Kumaon region and is situated amidst lush green mountains. The lake is 1701 m in length, 451 m in width, and a depth of 18 m. It is spread across 63.25 hectares of area. The Victoria dam was built on this Lake in 1883 when the Kumaon region was under the British Raj. Bhimtal offers splendid views and visual vistas of nature’s beauty. The lake provides a drinking water supply and supports aquaculture with several species of fish.The Bhimtal Lake is much cleaner and less crowded than the Lake at Nainital. There is an island at the center of the lake which can be reached by boat. This island has an aquarium with different species of fish from China, South Africa, and Mexico. Earlier there was a restaurant, which has been closed due to pollution.There is an ancient Bhimeshwara Mahadev Temple on the banks of the Lake. The present temple was renovated by Baz Bahadur of the Chand dynasty in the 17th century. Close to the Bhimeshwar Temple, there is Garg Parvat, a small hill that happens to be the origin of the River Gargi, which is called Gola Nadi in this area.
